Basheshwar Mahadev Temple stands in Bajaura, south of Bhuntar. If you are travelling from Kullu towards Mandi, the road passes Bhuntar first and then reaches Bajaura. That makes the temple a possible stop on a southbound journey. It is not between Kullu town and Bhuntar Airport.

The temple is worth seeking out for its carved stonework. It is still used for worship, not a museum or a long sightseeing circuit. Its exterior gives you plenty to see without depending on access to the shrine inside.

Find the right Bajaura stop

From Kullu Bus Station, the route to the temple area is about 16 km by road. From Bhuntar Airport, it is about 4 km farther south by road. Set your destination to Basheshwar Mahadev Temple in Bajaura, not just to Kullu or Bhuntar. Bajaura is the village; the temple is the place you are looking for within it.

If you are arriving from Mandi, you reach Bajaura before Bhuntar and Kullu. If you are coming from Manali, you pass Kullu and Bhuntar before you reach the temple. Those simple road orders matter more than a map listing that calls the temple “near Kullu”.

What to look at when you arrive

The stone tower rises above a compact shrine, with dense carving around the entrance and across the outer walls. Look beyond the repeated patterns of stone blocks for the larger sculpted niches. Among the figures on the outer faces are Vishnu and Durga. The detail is easy to miss if you only photograph the tower from a distance.

Does it fit your journey?

Continuing towards Mandi? Bajaura is in the right direction, so the temple can be a stop along that drive. Leaving from Bhuntar Airport? From Kullu or Manali, you would go past the airport to Bajaura and then return for your flight. Keep this as a separate outing unless you genuinely have enough time for the extra journey. Do not build a tight departure around it.

For a day spent in Kullu town instead, see our Manali to Kullu town article. If you are arranging the flight transfer itself, our Bhuntar Airport to Manali article covers that journey.
