Mandi to Bir Village or Tibetan Colony

Bir is roughly 70 to 80 km by road from Mandi town, depending on your final stop. You will travel towards Jogindernagar, but before you book the ride, check exactly where you are staying. A drop at Bir Road puts you at the highway turn, not at every guesthouse in Bir village or the Tibetan Colony.
If you are moving from Mandi to Bir for a night or two, give the journey part of the day. You will have a more comfortable arrival if you know your final stop before setting off with luggage.
Find your actual Bir address
Ask your host for a map pin and the name they use for their area. Upper Bir, Bir Tibetan Colony and Bir Road are not interchangeable on a bus booking or in a conversation with a driver. The Colony is around Chowgan; Upper Bir is a different part of the village. Billing is a separate place above Bir, not a general name for the accommodation area.
If a bus listing says only “Bir”, check its named drop with the operator. A service that lets you off at Bir Road can still be useful, but you will need to arrange the remaining journey to your stay. If you have a heavy bag or expect to arrive late, settle that last connection before you leave Mandi.
Bus or a direct car?
For a bus, start by asking at Mandi's bus stand which service goes towards Bir and where it actually stops. Confirm whether it reaches your part of Bir or leaves you at the highway turn. Check the departure and onward connection for your travel date rather than relying on a timetable saved from another season.
A car is simpler if you want to travel straight from your Mandi stay to a specific address in Bir. Share the pin before leaving and name the area too. “Bir” on its own is not enough if the driver is expecting the Bir Road junction and your room is in the Tibetan Colony or Upper Bir. Agree on the complete drop and fare beforehand.
You will head out of Mandi towards Jogindernagar, then on to the Bir area in Kangra district. The distance is a planning range, not a promise about the time to your door. Leave your first fixed activity until after you have reached your stay.
If you are still choosing where to go from Mandi, our Mandi destination page introduces the town. Barot Valley from Mandi is a different journey and suits a different stop, so do not treat Barot as a turn on the road to Bir.
